I did this a lot when I first started out and still have to fight it. Remember that you have an 8 megapixel camera that can easily be cropped afterwards to give you a better composition. What I mean is...sometimes frame everything in your camera so that you use up two thirds to three fourths of the space (leaving empty space around the subject). Then crop to your desired composition later - post processing becomes more fun when you can rotate the photo and stuff.
